Any browser / smart TV
Zero hardware and zero install — any device with a web browser can be a screen in a minute.
Pair a screen
- Create the screen in Admin → Screens and note its 6-character code.
- On the device, open wemasjid.com/display in the browser.
- Type the code. The browser remembers it, so you only do this once.
If the device can't type, open the screen's direct URL instead — wemasjid.com/display/ABC123 — bookmark it or set it as the browser's homepage. The screen's Connect button in the dashboard shows its code big, plus a QR and the direct link; every screen's link is also listed under Admin → Screens → Players & downloads.
Where this works well
- Smart TV browsers (Samsung Tizen, LG webOS) — quickest way to try it; some can set a homepage
- Chromecast with Google TV — use the built-in browser or install our Android app instead
- Old laptops and mini PCs — Chrome or Edge in kiosk mode (
--kioskflag) is genuinely reliable - Fire tablet on a stand — handy for entrances and smaller rooms
Kiosk tips
- Set the display page as the browser's homepage where the TV allows it.
- Turn off screen blanking, sleep timers and energy-saving standby in the TV settings.
- Hide the cursor: on a PC, a "hide cursor" extension or
unclutteron Linux does it; TVs usually hide it automatically. - For daily unattended use, a Fire Stick or Raspberry Pi is still the better long-term option — browsers on TVs can be flaky about autostart.
Offline behaviour
The display caches the last good timetable and slides in the browser, so the board keeps showing correct times through short outages and comes straight back when Wi-Fi returns. After ~30 minutes without contact the screen shows a small offline dot so you can tell at a glance.
Previews from the admin dashboard never mark a screen as online — a screen only counts as "online" when a real player checks in.
